Sage -

Research conducted at the allergy Clinic in Landquart, Switzerland , last year found that sage combined with echinacea was as effective as the painkiller lidocaine in relieving sore throat pain. plus, studies show that the herb’s bacteria-fighting heft makes it a potent breath fresher. To make sage mouthwash, steep 1 tablespoon sage leaves in 1 cup of hot water for 5 minutes. Strain and gargle.

Wilderness First Aid Training Course – Boy Scouts

ECSI is your source for Boy Scouts of America Wilderness First Aid The Emergency Care and Safety Institute is pleased to announce a new venture with the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) to provide training based on BSA’s new Wilderness First Aid Curriculum and Doctrine Guidelines.

Based on BSA’s 16-hour Wilderness First Aid Curriculum, ECSI’s Wilderness First Aid Field Guide and Boy Scouts of America Wilderness First Aid meet course requirements and address everything individuals need to know to prevent and treat emergencies in remote areas.

Including:

Bleeding and wound care
Burns, bites, and stings
Bone, joint, and muscle injuries
Cold- and heat-related illnesses
Altitude illnesses, and much more

This Class will be in Aug. 2010

Wilderness First Aid Class

WILDERNESS FIRST AID, (Starting July 7, 2010). Our standard course (16 – 20 Hours) covers a more in depth look into the following topics: Actions in an Emergency; Victim Assessment and Urgent Care; Care for Bleeding, Wounds, and Burns; Dressings and Bandages; Bone, Joint, and Muscle Injuries; Physical and Environmental Hazards; Poisons, Toxins and Poisonous Plants; Animal Bites, Human Bites, and Snakes; Insect and Arthropod Bites and Stings. This course was assembled by the “Wilderness Medical Society” and the “American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons”. Wilderness First Aid

Emergency Care and Safety Institute and the Boy Scouts of American just completed working together and have published a NEW Wilderness First Aid program that is approved for the Boy Scouts. We here at “The Safety Center” now offer this training. I don’t have the program up on my web page yet but will be posting it in the next few weeks. If you need more information about the course call me at 509-979-0849. Plus you can look at our current Wilderness First Aid page and get the most out of it.

So far The Safety Center Has made it to the last three annual meeting for the EWFAAA. They are a association to help the child care industry here in the Spokane area. They meet every month on the 3rd Monday. For more information call their President Dehorah Thurber @ 509-926-6144

Big Horn Outdoor Adventure Show.

The other week we were at the Big Horn Outdoor Adventure Show and had a great time. The show ran for four days and I got to talk to folks the whole time. I must have talker to a few hundred folks that did all kinds of different things (mainly, Outfitters and Search and Rescue). But anyway had a blast and will be doing it again next year……See ya there J

Is First Aid Training Manatory for ALL worksites?

From time to time I review my competitor’s web sites to see what is going on. Recently, I found a site that stated in a font size of about 48 and bright red letters that First Aid training was mandatory and then when they sited the regulation, they dropped down to a font size of about 10. The regulation they sited was for the logging industry not all industry as they are leading people to believe. I think this is meant to lead the reader to believe that first aid training is mandatory in all areas of the working environment, which is just not true. I think it is being done just to drum up business by fear……I have formed The Safety Center into a company that values integrity in everything that we do. I have been working as a Health and Safety Consultant for over 30 years and am certified by the Department of Defense as an instructor…so I’m not just someone that went to a two day instructor trainer course. Don’t be fooled by someone that can’t cite a regulation and state the truth of the intent of the law. If you want the truth, check out my FAQ under my first aid page. Some jobs are required to be certified in First Aid/CPR but not ALL. Check out my list and if all else fails just call and ask me……
